BRUNCKOWS CABIN, A.K.A. THE BLOODIEST CABIN IN ARIZONA, WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1858 BY GERMAN BORN FREDERICK BRUNCKOW. ALTHOUGH BRUNCKOW HAD BIG DREAMS FOR HIS NEW FOUND SILVER CLAIM, HIS PLANS WERE SHORT LIVED. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT SOME TIME BETWEEN JULY 23-26TH OF 1860, FREDERICK BRUNCKOW, JOHN MOSS (CHEMIST), AND WILLIAM WILLIAMS (MINER), HAD BEEN MURDERED BY A SMALL GROUP OF MEXICAN MIGRANT WORKERS HIRED BY FREDERICK BRUNCKOW. HISTORY TELLS THAT THE MINERS DRILLED THROUGH FREDERICK BRUNCKOWS CHEST WITH THE ROCK DRILL AND DISPOSED OF HIS BODY IN THE MINE SHAFT.
IN 1873, MILTON B. DUFFIELD, AND JAMES T. HOLMES, ATTEMPTED TO SETTLE A DISPUTE OVER THE LAND RIGHTS OF BRUNCKOWS CABIN, ENDING IN MILTON DUFFIELD BEING SHOT AND KILLED WITH A DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. HOLMES WAS ARRESTED FOR MURDER BUT LATER ESCAPED FROM JAIL AND WAS NEVER SEEN AGAIN. MILTON DUFFIELD WAS LAID TO REST AT BRUNCKOWS CABIN.
MAY 20TH, 1897, THE TOMBSTONE PROSPECTOR NEWSPAPER POSTS AN ARTICLE CLAIMING 5 MEN THAT HAD BEEN ACCUSED OF ROBBING A WELLS FARGO COACH HAD ALL BEEN KILLED. THE ARTICLE STATED THAT AFTER THE ROBBERY THE MEN TRAVELED TO BRUNCKOWS CABIN TO HIDE OUT. SOMEHOW, WHILE DIVIDING UP THE GOLD THERE WAS AN ALTERCATION, LEAVING ALL 5 MEN DEAD. THE GOLD WAS LATER RETURNED TO THE WELLS FARGO BANK.
THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 21 CONFIRMED DEATHS ON THE SITE OF BRUNCKOWS CABIN, WHICH DOESN'T INCLUDE THOSE WHO UNEXPECTEDLY VANISHED. APACHE INDIANS WERE VERY ACTIVE IN THE AREA AT THE TIME AND WOULD FREQUENTLY ATTACK THOSE WHO DARED TO STAY AT BRUNCKOWS CABIN. IT WAS COMMON PRACTISE AT THE TIME TO KEEP A MAN STANDING GUARD DURING WORK HOURS FOR PROTECTION. HISTORY ALSO TELLS OF A FAMILY BEING FOUND DEAD INSIDE THE CABIN, BUT NO NAMES WERE REFERENCED. LAWMEN, CRIMINALS, AND CIVILIANS, ALL MET THERE FATE AT THIS SMALL CABIN SITTING ATOP BRUNCKOWS HILL. NOW ALMOST NOTHING REMAINS OF THE STRUCTURE. ONLY A FEW WALLS ARE LEFT NOW AND WITH TIME THE CABIN WILL SURELY SUCCUMB TO THE DESERT, HOWEVER, THE TALES OF BRUNCKOWS CABIN WILL NOT SOON BE FORGOTTEN.
